@vega Tada! www.bravenet.com/guestbook... I ran across this a few weeks ago. Bravenet once had webring hosting so they kept coming up in my searches. They used to be all over those static Geocities websites.

I once had a perl script guestbook on a site, but it eventually got spammed out so I took it down. In a way I like the idea of a remotely hosted Guestbook better, it's a bit like having a free email address, if it gets spammed out you can walk away.

I like your thinking on Guestbooks. People were always more willing to "sign" a guestbook and leave a little feedback than they were to leave a conventional blog comment. Must be due to social norms.

@bradenslen Oh my, Bravenet is still around! Indeed, I used their guestbooks, and on Geocities too. Good find!

@bradenslen I think the format of a proper guestbook holds a different appeal compared to responding to a blog post - it's a general way of responding to a whole site, versus a specific response to a blogged idea. One might capture a different audience that may otherwise come and go without comment. Something I'd like to try eventually, just to see if anyone will respond.
