I can remember when the cereal maker was “Kellog’s of Battle Creek.” not Kellog’s just one of many brands owned by some conglomerate.

So there is that.

@bradenslen I think I read somewhere that Kellogg’s were a worker’s rights pioneer* in many ways, (at least compared with the competition and factories in general).

@odd Yeah, I think you are right. Kellogg, the founder was into bettering nutrition. There's more to it than that, but I'm feeling lazy about looking it up.

@bradenslen Those Kellogg's had quite a lot going on with all their cereals. Pretty fascinating American stories.

@Ron Great article. All the Kellogg family matters are interesting. Also, the fact that Post Cereals were inspired by Kellogg's products is interesting too. Thanks.

@bradenslen Indeed. It seems like the historical account of the origin of the name, Battle Creek, would easily fit on a cereal box, going all the way back to 1825. The battle was between two US government surveyors and two lazy Indians over food provisions that were getting scarce in their camp. One of the Indians did get knocked to the ground, but soon got up again. There were no guns, no blood shed, just not enough food. Well the descendents certainly took care of that scarcity, didn't they! It should be noted that one of the perks of being a government surveyor was the privilege of naming places.
