@bradenslen This reminded me of what AOL/Netscape was doing to Netscape Communicator back in the day. Lots of the old NS engineers I knew were always talking about how some other arm of the company was always forcing them to include all sorts of crap cluttering up the Personal Toolbar (as the Bookmarks Bar was then known) and how they kept exclaming “it’s the Personal Toolbar, for {insert word here}’s sake!”

And, of course, you have/had a whole bunch of ex-Netscape engineers in key positions on Chrome…. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

@smokey That sounds like Yahoo and their toolbar. They loaded it with so much toxic crap and auto downloads without permission that nobody wanted it.

There are really 3 reasons Google has developed Chrome: 1. originally as a defense against getting frozen out of the browser food chain (Internet Exploder, Firefox and Safari) for default search, 2. so they wouldn't get frozen out by default ad blockers, 3. to spy on you.

The whole company is built on ads, if Chrome plays lip service to blocking any ads it is only a tactic until the heat is off and they will try to spin it as a great feature that everyone should be grateful for. We've been here before.
