The “scientists” saying screen time is inherently dangerous are just seeking headlines.

there is “essentially no evidence” to support the idea that screen time is directly toxic to health Stop scaremongering about kids spending time on their phones

@ronguest Thanks for posting. I’ve been weary for years over all the scaremongering.

@jack Yeah, pretty much. The early anti-screen time “research” reminded of those who said cars were evil, music was evil, dance was TV was evil, etc. Kids and society and general is much more resilient and adaptable than these “experts” seem to think. Well, at least IMO.

@ronguest I’m just as skeptical as any parent, but there’s a significant difference in the apps on devices vs. tv, etc. Companies making the apps are manipulative by design. They’re designed to capture attention and elicit a dapamine response.

@ronguest Netflix recently decided not to green light a program that rewarded kids for watching Netflix.

@bradbarrish No doubt. The problem I have is the assumption that all screen time has the same effect. E.g. is my daughter spending 2 hours drawing on her iPad or my son reading for an hour or 2 the same as spending 2 hours on some sort of dopamine app? I don’t think so.

@ronguest then there’s the fallacy of the ‘I turned out fine’ argument.

@ronguest I agree. And BTW we aren’t a screen-free family.

@bradbarrish My mom used to get on me for being strict about car seats etc for our kids because of the “we turned out fine” argument. Sigh.
