A novel. Fr. Larry Williams, a zealous, young priest who has just returned from Rome where he did advanced theological studies for a year and a half after his ordination, is assigned to St. Brigid's Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, where Fr. Sean Callaghan is pastor and recuperating from a heart attack. Fr. Callaghan has lost his sense of priesthood and courage plus is run by a parish staff. With the help of a dog, nutritious food, and beautiful music, the two priests form a bond in their mission and work to solve seemingly-unsolvable problems-of course, with the assistance of grace. The novel involves characters such as a controlling director of liturgy, an absentee director of social justice, and an immoral principal of the school who do as they please until Fr. Williams arrives on the scene. His forthright and pleasant manner soon put a roadblock to the thinking and actions of their ways of operating. In the process, Fr. Callaghan, the pastor, soon becomes involved.
