For all the non-iOS users, what’s the Android phone that you currently use or are planning to upgrade to?

(That question also brings a sad reality of duopoly that the exists today.)

@amit I'm currently using the Samsung Galaxy 20 Ultra. I'm halfway through my contract and so having the perennial debate with myself about returning to iOS or staying with Android.

@colinwalker Yeah, same's the case with me. I have a OnePlus now which is getting close to its end of life. Just wanted to check what are people using. OnePlus and Samsung have been the options, of course other than going back to iOS.

@ohBananaJoe Yeah, the last couple of Pixel devices really haven't attracted me. Google has also lost interest in the Indian market. I am kind of waiting for the next OnePlus device and hoping they improve on their 8T camera.

@amit The main thing stopping me going back to iOS at present is the notch, I've gotten used to pin-hole front cameras. I know the notch is supposed to be smaller in the iPhone 13 this year but will have to wait and see.

@amit This doesn't quite fit your question but e.foundation just made deGoogled phones available in the US with their version of Android pre-installed. I ordered a refurbished Samsung S9+. I'm coming from an iPhone XR so it's not really an upgrade hardware wise. I'm happy but bored with the XR and I mainly ordered the eOS phone to address that duopoly problem.

@bradenslen thanks for making me aware of e.foundation - nice to know there's a deGoogled alternative available. 😎

@colinwalker Yeah, there are small things that I myself have gotten used to now. For example the notification pane and the widgets and a few such minor aspects. They sound trivial but go long ins easing the overall experience.

@amit I got a Motorola Android phone because I could get a new one for $100 that does everything I wanted it for, and more. Same reason I switched from Macs to Windows machines years ago. Price is very much an object for me, and whether I'm getting the absolute best (by some criterion) isn't really important as long as the machine does what I want it to do.

@bradenslen e.foundation project has always impressed me - I think I had heard it first from you only. But I guess it will take years until it reaches our market. Even I had mov d from XR to an Android device. Am not yet convinced to go back.

@amit Has India also banned Huawei devices?

@amit I use the Pixel 4a that I am very happy with.

@amit There is the option of installing eOS yourself on a compatible used phone with the easy loader. I'm not brave enough to do that. India is so huge I think e.foundation would get overwhealmed. They would need to find an Indian partner to handle the volume.

@joejenett I've been waiting a couple of years for a US phone to be offered by them so I figured I'd jump in. Limited choices on US phones but good enough for me. I ordered on Monday and it's due here on Thursday shipping from the EU so that's pretty fast.

@JMaxB After my recent, severe, Mac problems on two Macs, I'm wondering about Apple’s hardware/software combination quality. On the other hand, tech support phone people far exceeded expectations.

@pratik doesn't look to be banned. But doesn't seem to be widely available - I guess it's not well supported. You would hardly see well known sellers carrying them.

@frankm yeah, that's one option too. I just wish Google hadn't lost interest in the Indian market, one that they were aggressively targetting in the initial days. Haven't been the case since last two years.

@JMaxB True. I've gone through a similar phase. For me though, I do want a capable camera too as it tends to be my only camera for most times.
