I enjoy reading books and essays in the humour genre the most. However, I find it extremely difficult to consistently find something funny that excites me. I look at the Goodreads recommendations for humour and all are memoir types. Or they were written a long time back. Is this genre j... amitgawande.com

@amit Great post, I share your question! I found the book The Lies of Locke Lamora (and it's sequels) to be hysterical. People who try it after my recommendation are split into “I love it" and "I hate it" so it's not for everyone. Tons of profanity, but in very fun ways. It's a Fantasy series, and I found the premise and plot super exciting. But I am that kinda geek, lol. The audiobook performance is fantastic too. Let me know what you think of it, if you give it a go.

@cm Thank you Chad. It sounds fun, have already purchased and added to my list. Unfortunately, couldn't find the audiobook book version. Will let you know which section I belong to - I usually enjoy the silky, geeky humour 🙂

@cm Btw, what I find odd is that there aren't many recommendations for books in humour genre. It never works. I am not sure why. May be not many people enjoy this genre - which in itself is surprising given the popularity of comedy TV shows.

@amit yes that’s true. I mean I can’t even think of a book in the humor genre other than a book by a standup comedian (Steve Martin has at least one) but those are mostly autobiographical. Or the collection of skits or books about performers. Oh, my wife says David Sedaris is very funny. I haven’t read his work yet. I think he’s an essayist?

@cm David Sedaris is funny - I have read Me Talk Pretty One Day. But yeah, he is an essayist. And there's no dearth of funny essay collections or memoir - a lot from standup comics. Hardly anything though that's pure funny fiction. Sigh!

@amit David Sedaris has written a bunch of fictional humor. I highly recommend "Barrel Fever", his first book. It's hilarious and fictional. Really funny stuff. Mostly short stories and vignettes.

@baker Great, thank you! I'll check that out right away. That's also something I was very keen on reading - funny short stories 👍
