@matpacker Have you tried the different themes and colour customisation?

@martinfeld Nope, just using it on iOS, actually didn't know there were themes. That said, I don't have the time or energy to customise what my search engine looks like, I just want reliable results. Changing themes adds another layer of complexity, which is something I think a lot of "alternate" web apps tend to do rather than just focusing on usability. Sadly, I think the Google's and Facebook's of this world tend to get it right more than the indies, well Facebook might not be a good example anymore with all the bloat they've added over the past 5-6 years...

@matpacker Fair enough! There isn't much to the customisation—just clicking on an option or selecting a colour—but of course it's up to you! I'm just so anti-Google and -Facebook in terms of ads and tracking that I'm happy to trade the super-accurate results for generally good ones.

@martinfeld I'm not going anywhere near Facebook again, despite really really missing Instagram, I'm more concerned about them as a company than I am Google, currently. I feel like Google at least gives me something in return for the data I give them, I use the shit out of search, gmail, drive/sheets/docs...though I do still try to block their ad trackers where possible. Facebook gives me nothing in return.

@matpacker DDG is my default. I agree the UI could/should be improved. But I hate Google enough I stick with it unless it fails to produce results.

@matpacker what parts don’t you like? I’ve been using ddg as my primary for years now and rarely go back. When I do use google it always feels very similar.

@martinfeld Wow, thanks for the tip. I had similar issue with the feel of it but that's now sorted :)

@kalmir Not a problem! I like to have everything dark, so the ability to change it is really appealing to me.

@agundy It's difficult to describe, it could be just that I'm SO used to Google that DDG never stood a chance. I would guess that if I stayed using it for a more significant amount of time that it might've stuck.

@matpacker I’m sure it depends on search content and habit too. I definitely see the weaknesses in Ddg especially for location results. I use !g when the results aren’t what I want. Happens rarely though
