Spotify or Apple acquiring podcasts to make them exclusive is like if Micro.blog acquired someone’s blog to make it only readable in Micro.blog. Ridiculous.

@manton When you put it that way, I'll gladly take $100MM to move from Jekyll to Micro.blog 😆

@manton I don’t get Apple playing this game.

@manton I agree with your sentiment though the Apple strategy does seem different to Spotty’s

”The technology giant has begun acquiring two types of original podcasts, according to people familiar with the matter: one category is audio spinoffs of existing movies and programs on its Apple TV+ service, and the other is original programs that could eventually be adapted into future TV+ video content.”

@manton It wasn't clear from that article if Apple intends to make its podcasts exclusive (though I vaguely recall another article months ago suggesting it). I understand Spotify's goal (though the shows they produce won't really be true podcasts), but I dislike the direction.

@manton it makes perfect sense, but it is pathological to the medium, that’s for sure.

@manton At first, this seemed like a very strange thing to do: when I think podcast client, I never think of Spotify, Google Play, or Pandora. Then again, that's probably why they're pushing for exclusivity as so far, nothing else makes sense.

@manton but if you want to for 100.000.000$ I might be interested 😂
