Somehow when I got my new phone I thought Call Screening would be a good idea. Pah! Yesterday I missed 6 calls from a person I'd said could call me. Today two calls from a tradie.
Now it's OFF. How To Turn Off Call Screening On iPhone (iOS 26).

@dubh Have you checked the myriad options under each Focus Mode? I turned off all kinds of stuff trying to solve my issue. I still don’t know if things are working as I want them.
@dubh I want one Focus mode for Sleep. Otherwise I want my phone to tell me everything that’s going on. I can choose for myself to look at or ignore notifications, calls, texts etc. It seems hard to achieve that. There doesn’t seem to be a way to just say, if it’s not 8pm to 5.30am then turn off Focus modes totally. Or I may just be misunderstanding everything… I use Airplane Mode if I really want total silence for some reason.
@Miraz Grrr, these "helpful" iPhone settings! I had a similar issue once when mine offered to turn on "smart" Do Not Disturb mode… which turned out just to mean having DND on 24/7. Turned that off as soon as I realised it was making me miss calls!
@Miraz This conversation is making me wonder why I missed a call this afternoon when my phone was in my back pocket.
I had Do Not Disturb on earlier today, but am sure that I turned it off?! This would not be the first time that I missed a call because of a focus mode that I thought was off.
@crossingthethreshold I wonder just how many of us iPhone users are ending up a little bewildered about missed calls and messages. I suppose I thought someone would try to call, iPhone would check who they were then immediately say: Jill Bloggs is calling about the appointment. What I seemed to get was half an hour later a message on screen would tell me I had 3 missed calls. 😵💫
@Miraz the prescreening for companies works for me. I get a immediate notification and then the call comes through
@Munish I’ve possibly got some incorrect settings somewhere but find it all very confusing. Once upon a time I trained people on how to use their Macs, the Internet etc. Now I seem to belong in the somewhat befuddled category… It’s a bit hard to come to terms with.
@Miraz Yes, I’m confused about what is happening. As I said my phone was in my back pocket with volume on - I did not hear the call. I had my Apple Watch on and that did not indicate that a call was coming through. A few minutes later I look at my phone to put it down somewhere and see that I had a missed called. I’m baffled 🤷♂️
