My Netatmo wind gauge was on top of a regular fence post. That worked well until yesterday when the neighbour’s landscapers planted flax bushes beside it. Pretty soon the flaxes will block the wind. The landscapers added another post about 1.5 metres taller for me. 😀

Wind gauge attached to a post more than a metre higher than the previous post. background: farm landscape.

@Miraz how do you find the Netatmo? I keep looking at them, but haven’t committed to the purchase yet.

@Miraz That was very nice—and neighborly—of them :-)

@matpacker Briefly: very happy. Had it for at least a couple of years now. I should write a blog post about it… Just go for it!

@smokey I spotted the team bringing sizeable flaxes to plant so asked if they could keep a clear spot for the wind gauge. Their counter-offer was to put it on a raised post for me. I have to wonder if it's a rare example of benefiting from ageism / sexism. Would they have offered that to a male?

@Miraz Sold! Now I just need to get someone to install it up on the TV antenna...once I buy one of course. I’m keen on their rain and temperature gauges as well.

@matpacker I have rain, wind, temperature. You'll need some good batteries. I finally bought Eneloops. Beware: you need to change the batteries from time to time and that's an annoyingly fiddly job. Put the gauges where you'll be able to reach them.

@Miraz the rain gauge placement isn’t an issue, the wind one might be a problem though as we live in built up suburbia, so the plan was to get it up high into the proper wind to get more accurate readings... hrmm might have to put some additional thought into it

@matpacker BTW: you must buy the base unit, then wind and rain are optional.

@Miraz Hrm, not quite as neighborly as it first seemed. And that is a good question…
