Ok I am crying my face off after Fire Captain Hall led the Pledge of Allegiance.

@springdew I don’t understand the person who took her off-camera mid-pledge, when she was actually signing it for heavens sake! The one time having the camera on the speaker was crucial. (I was watching CNN. Perhaps other broadcasters didn't do that…)

@Miraz PBS showed the whole thing. The signed version of the Pledge was very impactful and expressive.

@jean Excellent! Someone on the CNN coverage made an extremely bad decision on that shot.

@jean I just thought to find that clip and watch it in full. Superb!

@Miraz I’m generally pretty cynical about the Pledge and other such trappings. But seeing words about unity and justice visually represented so artfully, I was verklemmt in spite of myself.

@jean I seem to find myself often moved by that kind of public exhibition and declaration of things like justice and inclusion. I'm so tired of living in this world where so many are excluded and demeaned (and I’m one of the more privileged ones)! So many people live with total exhaustion fighting for their fair place.

@Miraz What you said! I was watching on the Washington Post live stream. I was already feeling favorable that the chosen person was a nonwhite woman, and then she started using sign language and it sent me straight to weepy land.
