@JohnPhilpin There’s a salient point there for sure, but I think there is a lot to be said for how certain generations lack(ed) the media literacy skills required to effectively parse the tidal wave of information being firehosed at them every second of every day.

@fractals @shoq well let’s not forget that we have several generations now that have been pummeled by nonsensical claims in commercials via all forms of media. Television and unfettered advertising broke our collective minds, damaged our ability to discern and numbed us to dangers of lies. Newspapers offered an alternative until they too were consolidated and corporatized.

@combatdavey critical thinking would indeed be a good addition to a school’s curriculum .. maybe we could have the department of education mandate it’s intro ….. oh wait.

@JohnPhilpin I was a teacher once upon a time. In Ontario, it was actually mandated that concepts including media literacy were woven into lesson plans and achievements therein were incorporated into rubrics.
