@JohnPhilpin 🎉🎉🎉!!! I love it! Did you have fun?! I love the waves and the coffee. (And the child wearing a snake because that happens here. A lot.)
@JohnPhilpin Wow - that is cool… the band — I stopped it to look more closely and it looked like one of the players was playing a Chapman Stick? Great selection of clips!
@seansharp WOW - sharp eyes - and absolutely correct ... it is Nick Beggs (probably most famous for Kajagoogoo - but in this particular instance is the bass / stick player supporting Steven Wilson playing at The Masonic, San Francisco - November 2016. I wrote about Wilson here
@modernlittleme thankyou ... learned a lot in this process
@JohnPhilpin Thanks for sharing this - it's funny to me, but this is exactly how I discover new music nowadays - someone online has shared something - I'll definitely give Wilson a longer listen.
@JohnPhilpin I became acquainted with the stick via my favorite musician (who is Canadian - not that that matters, per se), Bruce Cockburn. His bandmate Fergus Marsh played it on an album of his (he's got 37 of 'em) and then out on tour - it's distinctive in shape and sound -
@seansharp was not aware of Cockburn ... but on checking he has certainly demonstrated that he has the chops to mingle with the 'right' crowd!
@seansharp likewise Fergus - but just been listening to this : www.youtube.com/watch ... I came across the stick through Tony Levin and King Crimson
@JohnPhilpin I just saw him in concert - a few weeks ago - solid guitar player, even at 72 years young! Blew me away actually - both his acoustic stuff and then his electric stuff, too - look up this tour (“Bone on Bone”) that he is in now . . .
@seansharp worlds colliding - Wilsons current tour is ‘To The Bone’ - after the last album!
@JohnPhilpin Here are two versions of the same song: Stolen Land: electric acoustic He uses some effects on both, but you get a sense of his guitar chops, for sure.
@seansharp that electric opening ... phenomenal - are you acquainted with either John Martyn or John Trudell ...
