There seems to be a lot of praise for Fastmail, so I’ve signed up for a trial. I can’t really see how it’s different from a normal / free email service, but I’ll give it a whirl for a while.

@AndyNicolaides Better on your blog than in a tweet, my friend. Do the thing.

@mikehaynes thanks for this. I may need to dig around more to see what I’d be getting beyond just more privacy (my email usage isn’t high and 90% newsletters or rubbish).

@AndyNicolaides It mostly is just privacy, which is a huge benefit to me. No ads is nice. If you use the stock mail client on iOS , you also get true push, without using a third party service(as clients like Spark do).

I’ve been using Fastmail for a little over a year and have loved it. I actually stopped using the Apple Mail app (on both iOS and Mac) because their app / browser experience is so much better. Can’t recommend them enough!

@mcg thanks for sharing your thoughts! I’ve been impressed by their iOS app too actually. Beyond privacy (which I think I have with iCloud) what other benefits are there that you don’t get from iCloud? Or isn’t there any really?

@AndyNicolaides Custom domains and likely more open protocol access to contacts and calendars.
