Every Blogging Option Sucks

@de I read this post yesterday, and it resonates with me. Nearly every platform has a little of something you want and options you don't. I would have been tempted to use blot.im, but I don't have the skills to customise themes. That's why I went back to WordPress; it's easy to adjust virtually every aspect - frontend and backend.

@de “They feel like the wrong tool for the job” sums up my feelings on Squarespace for blogging. I wanted to love it, as I love their design, but it felt too constrained and their text editor wanted to fight with me too much.

@AlanGMarz The post resonated with me too. For example, I am drawn to aspects of Medium and Squarespace. I love the simplicity of writing in Medium. And to my eye, posts with large images look beautiful in Medium. In addition, Medium now allows users to use custom domains. For photographers, Squarespace presents images beautifully in my opinion but blogging is rudimentary compared with WordPress. In the end, I think for someone who writes infrequently Medium is a good option. Sure Medium may go under but you can export your data. In the fast changing world of technology, nothing is forever.
